On the Relationship between sound and image
In my artwork, I explore the relationship between sound and image. These paintings are based on specific pieces of music and concepts from musical theory.
Chromatic Rhapsody
Chromatic Rhapsody features a body of Natalia’s work exploring the relationship between sound and visual art.
Natalia is interested in visual perception, and her current work is based on synesthesia, a neurological phenomenon in which an external stimulus causes a sensory reaction in two or more senses simultaneously. Based on the idea of the blending of the senses, and research in perception, color theory and music theory, Natalia explores the process of translating music into visual art. Her two dimensional and video works employ color, mark-making and form to express the timbre of musical instruments and the pitch, notes, and tempo of musical compositions. Her sculptural and sound works look at how sound is produced. Natalia intends for viewers to “play,” producing their own sounds and melodies by interacting with her three-dimensional works.
